Program Goals​:
  • Provide opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities to enjoy cycling in Davis. Connect seniors with volunteers to reduce social isolation (Ida Bryan Memorial Fund / Davis Community Church).

​

  • Provide opportunities for volunteers (including bike-riding seniors) to offer rides to others. Make greenbelts and parks more available to people with mobility limitations (YSAQMD grant). Develop partnerships with Davis Senior Center, Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance, Yolo Hospice, Faith-based organizations, Rancho Yolo, Senior Residential Facilities.

Volunteer Pilots

No strong cycling skills are required (electric-assist motor allows anyone to pilot the Chat). Training is provided, including practice rides, route recommendations, and working with seniors. Volunteer shifts will be 1-2 hours for a single ride. 

The Chat Trishaw

Dutch design for safety and comfort. Two seated passengers with seat belts; footrest lowers for no-step entry, hood for sun and rain protection and electric-assist motor.

Types of Rides

  • Intended for pleasure rides

  • Not appropriate for appointments

  • (Cancel rides if poor air quality, high heat or wind)

  • Approximately 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., 7 days/week if enough volunteers are available

  • Scheduled for 1-hour blocks of time

  • Coffee shop

  •  Ice cream/yogurt or other treats

  • Outing along a greenbelt, park, UCD Arboretum or other location

  • See neighborhood holiday decorations

Rider Registration and Reservation Process

One-time sign-up to register for the program. Name, address, phone, ride preferences. Once registered, we’ll contact you to schedule a ride.
